Twelve Steps to Admission to Academy Europa Stars

Step 1: Contact Us
Learn more about the academy and ask questions by attending our events (such as demonstration days or open houses) or by filling out the contact form on our official website. We will guide you through every stage of the admission process to ensure it is as comfortable and clear as possible.
Step 2: Complete the Online Application
Submit your application online—this is the first and essential step towards admission. Provide accurate and complete information in all mandatory fields, and double-check your submission to avoid errors or omissions that could delay processing. Honesty is key, as any incorrect information may affect your acceptance.
Step 3: Submit the Required Documents
Prepare and send all necessary documents to complete your application. Typically, you will need to provide:
- A candidate photograph
- A copy of your passport and those of your parents
- A completed player questionnaire
- Your school transcript
Additional documents may be requested if needed for processing.
Step 4: Experience a Day at Europa Stars
After an initial review of your application, some candidates will be invited to participate in a TRY OUT. This gives you the opportunity to experience the academy’s atmosphere firsthand, learn about our educational and sports programs, and take part in an interview with an admissions officer, as well as tests in mathematics and English (depending on your age).
Step 5: Sign the Contract with Europa Stars
Both the family and the student-athlete sign a two-year contract with the academy. Due to recent changes in player recruitment and employment regulations in Slovakia—confirmed at the National Hockey Union Congress on June 16, 2019—all foreign players (legionnaires) must remain as such until they obtain Slovak citizenship. They are required to pay a fee during the contract signing stage for the next two seasons:
- Field players: 3,000 Euros
- Goalkeepers: 6,000 Euros
There is a limit on the number of foreign players per team in the youth leagues.
Step 6: Pay the First Part of the Contract
Pay the initial fee, including the academy’s entrance fee and the deposit, at the time of contract signing and prior to processing the player’s transfer form.
Step 7: Process the Player’s Transfer Form
Arrange the transfer form with the Slovak Hockey Federation, IIHF, and the player’s country of origin. Up to the U18 level, the transfer is free as per IIHF rules. After U18, a transfer card is required, costing 900 Swiss Francs. The academy manages this process.
Step 8: Establish Legal Guardianship
Set up legal guardianship for the student-athlete by the host family in the Slovak Republic, processed through the Slovak court, and obtain a national D visa outside the EU if necessary. In some cases, the student-athlete may need to leave the EU if the visa permits only a limited stay.
Step 9: Pay the FHC Fee
Pay the FHC fee (3,000 Euros for field players or 6,000 Euros for goalkeepers) in accordance with the new regulations set by the National Hockey Union Congress on June 16, 2019. This fee is required for foreign players (legionnaires) for the following two seasons until they obtain Slovak citizenship.
Step 10: Apply for and Obtain Residence Permit (or Permanent Residency)
Submit your application and obtain a residence permit (or permanent residency) for the Slovak Republic after receiving the national D visa from the consulate outside the EU.
Step 11: Pay the Second Part of the Contract
Complete the remaining payments required by the contract with the academy.
Step 12: Pass the Commission
Undergo evaluations by the migration and sports commissions at a designated center to finalize your admission.
