The Core and Assessment of IB/DP

IB DP Core
Requirements for the IBDP Core
To successfully complete the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP), students must not only study six chosen subjects but also meet three mandatory requirements that form the program's core:
1. Extended Essay (EE)
- Students write an academic essay of approximately 4,000 words based on their own research.
- This project develops skills in critical thinking, research, and analysis.
- The Extended Essay allows students to delve deeply into a topic of their interest and serves as important preparation for university studies.
2. Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
- In the TOK course, students explore the nature of knowledge and learn to analyze the ways in which it is acquired.
- Objective: To develop the ability to ask questions, consider different perspectives, and form a personal understanding of the principles of knowledge.
3. CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service)
The CAS program comprises mandatory extracurricular activities that must be completed to obtain the IB diploma. Although CAS does not affect final grades, successful fulfillment of all its elements is required.
- Creativity:
Involves a wide range of creative activities aimed at developing creative thinking (for example, participation in theatrical productions, art projects, and musical events). - Activity:
Requires participation in physical exercise and sports, which promotes a healthy lifestyle and the formation of lifelong beneficial habits. - Service:
Involves volunteer work and projects aimed at improving the local community and society as a whole. Through service, students develop social and personal skills and become aware of their role in society and the meaningful contribution they can make.
Why Is This Important?
The criteria of the IBDP core enable students to develop the intellectual, creative, physical, and social skills necessary for success in life and for studying in an international environment.
- Personal Development:
The program not only helps students achieve academic success but also transforms them into active members of society. - Preparation for Life:
The IBDP is more than just academic education; it is comprehensive preparation for life in today’s globalized world.
